Olga Allon, who is one of Cyclebeat's founders, also founded and built Hot Yoga Society into one of London's leading hot yoga studios. Here she explains why indoor cycling and yoga are such a great combination…
In life we need balance. We need to find the Ying and Yang, especially if you are one of those people who likes to push more, work harder, strive for more. Indoor cycling and yoga give you that balance which is why they complement each other so well.
Indoor cycling will improve your cardiovascular system and you will get fitter. You will build power and build strength in your legs. You will get your heart pumping and blood circulating and endorphins will fly!
In yoga you can find a place where you can quieten the mind and take time to relax and breath. You will stretch and lengthen those tired and sore muscles. And your yoga practice will allow you to work that much harder next time you spin and prevent that injury that was looming.
At Cyclebeat, in our boutique indoor cycling studio, you enjoy the pumping music, the Beatboard (metrics to show you how hard you are working), the dark club-like setting and the instructors encouraging you to push yourself to your limits. You will build cardiovascular strength, improve your fitness, lose weight and do so with a huge smile on your face as you sing along to your favourite tracks.
At the Hot Yoga Society, we use the Bikram Method so each class follows a format that is easy to learn and join in. But what happens in that hot room? That sweaty, humid room that so many people race into every day. It’s intense. It’s hot. It’s sweaty and you will work so hard that you feel every crevice of your body has been rung out, pulled, stretched, pushed and cleansed. You do this with quiet and with focus to concentrate and listen to your own breath. And that is what makes it so unusual and interesting. How can you work so hard whilst staying so quiet and still? In a hot yoga class you are training your mind as well as your body. You are finding silence and space in your head to just be at one with your breath, even when things around you are incredibly challenging.
I, and many others, find that my weekly yoga practice and indoor cycling classes give me the perfect balance.
Hot Yoga Society will be launching a high tech yoga space in the courtyard at Cyclebeat early Feb with a schedule of hot yoga classes on offer.
